Titanium has many advantages over stainless steels: despite being lightweight, it provides great strength and outstanding corrosion resistance. In the area of medical devices, another property is just as important: titanium is fully biocompatible. Additionally, commercially pure titanium promotes osseointegration, or the ingrowth of bone into the material, which helps anchor implants in the body.
Fort Wayne Metals has worked with titanium for decades – we have even established a proprietary drawing process that allows us to produce material with a much smoother surface than our competition. To further expand this material’s usefulness, we have recently developed 4TiTUDE™, which combines the strength of alloyed titanium with the beneficial attributes of commercially pure grade 4 titanium.
We also use titanium in DFT® composites.
